DIVAS GONE WILD!!! - The Mardi Gras of Music

Welcome to this week's "MUSIC TALK" column! You came on a good week, I have a lot to cover. Let me walk you through it...

At the beginning of the week, I was sure that the news of the week is going to be Madonna's "Hard Candy" album release and her terrific live performance in New York... However, as the days were going by I realized that there are way more troubled divas in this world who won't stop making the out of control headlines...

First stop is Paula Abdul.

Paula Abdul has spoken out about her mess up on this week’s episode of American Idol. The judge critiqued contestant Jason Castro on a song he hadn’t performed yet. Her mess up has the audience laughing, fellow judge Simon Cowell rolling his eyes and host Ryan Seacrest doing some damage control.

“The second song, I felt like your usual charm was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty and the two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four,” Abdul told Castro after only hearing his first song.

Abdul called into Seacrest’s radio show the next morning and said she made an “honest mistake” last night. She explained that she wrote notes on Castro’s performance and another contestant’s performance on the same card and got “confused” with the different format of the show... blah, blah, blah... honestly, truth be told, I'm not a pharmacist, but it sounds to me her being "confused" have something to do with getting into the medicine cabinet...

Next stop on the "confused" diva countdown is A-list actress and singer-wannabe, Scarlett Johansson. Her first single, "Falling Down" being the least bad song on her upcoming album, "Anywhere I Lay My Head" (Congrats great title, I can easily drift into coma!). David Bowie makes his way into the swirling, swelling mix to remind you what a charismatic singing voice sounds like, and Sitek plies enough snowy white space into the latter half to please (read: distract you from Scarlett's shortcomings).

There are undeniable things about Miss Scarlett's talent like being the A-list actress of top box office dramas or being a double D bra and cosmetic model... however, singing is something that she's not good at. Her music video has great acting in it, I admit. But, she's "falling down" as the song's title suggests... her vocals sound quiet and weak as if she started to sing after a few shots of vodka, and about to forget the next line of her song.

Advice: Actresses should stop think that they can sing, and singers should stop think that they can act.

On that note, time for the real news of the week: "Mariah Carey Returns to the Big Screen!" (A moment of silence in pain.)

Seven years after making what is widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever, "Glitter" (referred to as "Gutter"), Mariah Carey is back with another road-trip flick, "Tennessee." Premiering at New York's Tribeca Film Festival last Saturday, it follows two brothers seeking their estranged father. On their travels, they meet Krystal, a waitress/aspiring singer played by Carey (How creative, right? Yay for type-casting!).

Mariah said, "This is going to be refreshing for me; this is actually something that I want, even knowing that it was a gritty, hard shoot," director Aaron Woodley told Reuters in an interview. "Some people even told me that they forgot it was Mariah Carey when they were watching the film."

Yes, that is a safe assumption Mr. Woodley, people will try to forget Mariah Carey's performance in this movie.

...and if the craziness would not be enough, another "wise" decision from "Miss Butterfly" is her Vegas-like wedding at the Bahamas with actor, Nick Cannon, after knowing each other for only a few weeks. Apparently, Mariah doesn't just wanna dress from "Forever 21" , but wanna date from that age range as well.

That's a wrap for now! Get some Advil, sleep off this week's "music news". See you next Friday!
