Book release party

Today I'm contemplating my book release party which will be held on Saturday,August 9th. There are many things to be considered when planning one. It can really get quite complicated. Location is paramount because without a location there can be no party. I wanted a space that was classy yet relatively inexpensive, which was not an easy task. Yet, God was faithful and after weeks of searching, I finally found one in the city of Atlanta. Next I had to consider my guset list, making sure that everyone knew when and where it would be held. I chose to use digital invitations through evite.com. It was a simple solution for me, with each person on my guest list being notified, and then confirming by email. So family and close friends come first, then my writer sisters, church family, colleagues, and finally casual aquaintances. Of course there is waiting to see if their invitations have been accepted and then how many guests they will each bring which, inadvertently, adds to the number of guests. This is a number I must really pay attention to, weighing my options adding people to the list when and if they are needed. Quite naturally, I'd like to invite everyone I know but that is just not possible when using a limited space. The menu is another great concern, whether or not you will serve food, a three course meal, refreshments, or just dessert. I've chosen to do light refreshments and dessert. I didn't want to have the burden of cooking or major catering on that evening. So I'm preparing simple yet tasty finger foods so that my guests aren't hungry. Then I will serve cake, complete with my book cover on it. Now that's exciting. Decorations are the next thing on my list and my theme of course, is purple, my favorite color since forever. I've already purchased the paper products, with a lavender flower pattern on it. My plan is to have plum and lavender balloons and hopefully fresh lilacs on the tables. Wardrobe and hair have already been planned. I will wear my favorite purple spaghetti strapped dress with purple stilettos to match. My hair will be prepared by my hairdresser in an elegant style which will complement the outfit. My jewelry, although diamonds, will be conservative because that's who I am. Finally, there is entertainment and how it fits into the entire program. Now this is probably the hardest part because everything must flow perfectly. Another church sister/event planner will be the mistress of ceremonies and orchestrate everything. So I plan to have programs printed up in lavender, of course. A church sister/writer friend of mine will be over the music. I want a soloist to sing one of my favorite gospel selections. I'll read an excerpt from my book. I also plan to have someone read my auto-biography. I will surely have to make a speech, although I don't really like this idea. I also plan to recite a dramatic poem I've written just for the occasion. Don't ask me where this boldness has come from, but I know it's something I must do. A local bookstore will have a representative present to sell books. Then there will be words from my guests. Finally, I will do the actual book signing as one of the pivotal events of my life comes to a close. Am I looking forward to it? Absolutely. Am I afraid? No, God has not given me a Spirit of fear. Hallelujiah, I'm rejoicing that the book release is on its way.
